NFL Championship Round

If you took my betting advice for the Divisional round last weekend, I apologize.  I went an unprecedented 0-4 on the week, as nothing went right for the bets I gave out.  It was just one of those Murphy's Law weekends where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.

But I'm a firm believer in another law: the law of averages.  And that means we're basically guaranteed to go undefeated in our picks across the two conference championship matchups on Sunday.  So let me go ahead and give you your ticket to financial success in the penultimate weekend of the NFL season.

Baltimore Ravens -3.5 vs. Kansas City Chiefs AND Under 44.5
I really don't like betting against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the postseason.  But Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have been far and away the best team in football over the last couple months.  And after shaking off a bit of a rusty start to their first playoff game last week, they turned it on in the second half to end up winning in a rout.  While I don't think this game will turn into a blowout, I do think there's a good chance Baltimore wins by around six or seven points.  Here's an interesting stat: through his entire career, the team that has beaten Josh Allen's Buffalo Bills in the postseason has lost the next game every single time.  And I think this is simply Baltimore's year.

Additionally, it's likely going to be a wet and rainy day in Baltimore on Sunday, which points me in the direction of the under.  I've also been very impressed with Kansas City's defense, especially their secondary, and I think both teams will get a lot of stops on the other.  So give me Baltimore and the under in this one.

Detroit Lions +7.0 at San Francisco 49ers AND Over 51.0

If you have a heart, you really want the Detroit Lions to win on Sunday and advance to their first ever Super Bowl.  And if you have a brain, you think that they'll at least cover in their matchup against the NFC's best team this season.  The 49ers, as good as they've played this season, were pretty fortunate to sneak by the Packers last week.  It seemed like the absence of Deebo Samuel was felt, and his status is still uncertain for this week's game.  No team is more eager to kick things off than the Lions, and they're aware that they're essentially playing with house money at this point in the playoffs.  They'll be relaxed and loose as all the pressure is really on San Francisco.

I think the 49ers will win here, but I expect it to be tightly contested the whole way.  And with better weather conditions than we saw last week in the Bay area, I expect a lot of points to be scored this time around.  It should be a fun one, and we'll see if the Lions can pull off an upset for the ages in their first playoff game outside of Detroit this year.

Who are you rooting for this weekend and what bets do you like most for each of the championship games?  Let me know in the comments and savor these NFL games while we still have them.  We'll soon be in the midst of the dreaded football drought in a couple short weeks.
