Sunday's final two games of the Elite 8 decided a winner of the 2nd Annual Bucket Squad Sports Reports (Your #1 Source for All Things Sports) Mega March Madness Matchup Monstrosity. The first of the two games, (5) San Diego State vs. (6) Creighton, did not have any impact on our bracket challenge, but it was a thrilling affair that came down to a questionable shooting foul called on the Blue Jays with 1.2 seconds left. The Aztecs will dance into the Final Four for the first time in school history. The second game of the day was the one that the BSSRMMMMM was riding on. Another upset win from (5) Miami would end the contest, while a victory from (2) Texas would extend the challenge one more round. The Longhorns held a comfortable lead for most of the game, but like many teams we've seen this tournament, they went ice cold down the final stretch. Miami hung around long enough to strike at the end, and they will storm into the Final Four for the first time ever as well. So, this year's Final Four is set. And crazily enough, three out of the four teams are making their school's first appearance there. (4) UConn is the only squad with prior Final Four experience, and they've actually won the national title in four of their five previous appearances. Still, anyone can win once you've made it this deep into the Big Dance. The matchups for next Saturday will be as follows: Saturday, April 1 - Houston, Texas (9) Florida Atlantic vs. (5) San Diego State - 6:09pm EST (5) Miami vs. (4) UConn - 8:49pm EST Now, to discuss the results of the bracket challenge. Due to Miami's win on Sunday, our winner for the 2023 Mega March Madness Matchup Monstrosity is Elise C. with the bracket named "winning bracket." She picked by far the wildest Final Four combination and it paid off. Other contestants will be happy to hear that her sophisticated method for making her picks was to select based on "mascots and vibes." Her champion is still alive and her point total could still increase, but it doesn't even matter because no one else has any potential points remaining. Congrats to Elise on winning the highly desired $100 grand prize! The leaderboard after the Elite 8 is below. Everyone's position is now secured, though winning bracket's points could get even higher over the next week. The Final Four will be played on Saturday with the National Championship occurring next Monday night.
