We're exactly one week away from the start of the 2024 SEC football season, and here at Bucket Squad Sports Reports (Your #1 Source for All Things Sports), we couldn't be more excited.
One thing that everyone loves is ranking people, teams, and objects in relation to their peers. There's something about placing things in order from best to worst that is just a lot of fun, and it always generates a ton of engagement from everyone who disagrees.
Our experts have seen a ton of inexcusably bad rankings on the internet, specifically surrounding who people expect the top quarterbacks to be this college football season. And that prompted one of our experts to generate his own ranking, focusing in on the QBs of the SEC.
Here's what his hard work analyzing the 16 starting quarterbacks produced:

Nico Iamaleava, while undoubtedly a talented quarterback, lacks the experience that someone like Brady Cook brings to the field. Iamaleava's youth and limited exposure to high-stakes college football games mean that he has not yet developed the poise and decision-making that often come with more playing time. In contrast, Cook has spent more time in the collegiate environment, facing a variety of defenses and learning to adjust his game accordingly. This experience gives Cook a crucial edge in reading defenses, making quick decisions, and maintaining composure under pressure—skills that are honed over time and through repeated game situations.

Why is Shedeur Sanders missing from the top SEC quarterback list for the 2024 season? Sanders has demonstrated exceptional talent, poise, and leadership during his time at Colorado. Given his impressive stats, strong arm, and ability to perform in high-pressure situations, Sanders deserves serious consideration as one of the top quarterbacks in the SEC. Could his absence from the list be an oversight, or is there something specific that keeps him from being included among the best?

The author’s decision to rank Nico Iamaleava fifth among SEC quarterbacks is not only surprising but also undermines the recognition that Iamaleava’s immense talent and potential deserve. Nico, as one of the most highly regarded quarterbacks in the country, possesses a unique combination of athleticism, arm strength, and football IQ that sets him apart from his peers. Placing him fifth seems to reflect a failure to fully appreciate the generational talent he brings to the table.

There are valid reasons to doubt whether Carson Beck will be the starting quarterback for Georgia in the 2024 season. While Beck has shown promise, his performances have not consistently demonstrated the level of dominance expected from a top-tier SEC quarterback. Georgia has a deep quarterback room, with younger, highly-touted recruits pushing for playing time. If Beck fails to show significant improvement in key areas like decision-making, consistency under pressure, and leadership, the coaching staff may opt to go with a more dynamic or higher-upside option. The competitive nature of Georgia’s program means that no starting spot is guaranteed, especially with the constant influx of talent. Beck will need to prove he’s the best option to lead the Bulldogs, or risk being overtaken by a rising star.
