Week 9 of the college football season passed without too much drama in the SEC. The only contest decided by just one score was the primetime matchup between Tennessee and Kentucky, which the Vols won 33-27. That game, as well as the other four, went more or less as most people expected going into the weekend. I would like to add the Georgia looked about as good as they have all season against Florida in their first game without Brock Bowers. They should remain strong championship contenders if they can continue to get the job done down the stretch.

When it rains it pours... Last weekend was one of the worst weekends of football I've had in a while, across both college football and the NFL. It started on Saturday as my Tennessee Volunteers steamrolled Alabama in the first half, only to get 27 straight scored on them to lose the game. There was questionable officiating and though I won't solely blame that for the loss, it really set the tone for how my weekend was going to go.
Week 8 was an interesting week in the SEC with a variety of outcomes across the conference. Mississippi State and Arkansas got things underway on Saturday with a thrilling 7-3 affair in favor of the Bulldogs, taking the Razorbacks to a very disappointing 2-6 record with no conference wins still. Speaking of terrible starts to season, South Carolina was drubbed by Missouri to fall to 2-5, with their lone conference win coming against Mississippi State. While the wheels are falling off in Columbia, SC, the team in Columbia, MO is starting to look like a legit contender in the SEC East. However, their two toughest tests this season will begin after their bye this week when they take on Georgia and Tennessee in back-to-back weeks.
If you ever see me try to bet on the Colts when they play the Jaguars in Jacksonville ever again, please call the White House and report this website as a scam. I will deserve either prison time or a visit to the insane asylum if I make myself believe Indianapolis can finally play well in Jacksonville. And also, screw the Saints. That offensively fraudulent, red zone touchdown allergy-ridden, chip shot field goal missing lame team. I'm never picking them to cover again this season either.
Week 7 was filled with storylines across the SEC. We'll begin with the injury to Georgia's star tight end Brock Bowers, who was a dark horse Heisman candidate before suffering an ankle injury in the first half of their win over Vanderbilt. Bowers has already undergone surgery to his ankle and is expected to recover in four to six weeks. But no one knows if he'll actually play another college game or if he'll save himself to be fully healthy for the NFL combine. As far as on-field results from Saturday, we began the day with Alabama nearly choking away a 24-6 lead at home against Arkansas. This is clearly not the type of Alabama team we're used to seeing under Nick Saban, but we'll see if they're able to continue sneaking by as their schedule toughens up the next couple weeks.
It was another successful weekend for us in Week of the NFL season, as we put together another 5-2 week with another successful Lock of the Week. That brings our current season record to a solid 19-13-2, and the Lock of the Week bounced back to get to 4-1 on the year. And I won't let my readers forget that the lone casualty to the Lock came from Patrick Mahomes' decision to slide at the one-yard line two weeks ago against the Jets. I've got seven more picks for Week 6 as we continue our so far successful season. I've been kind of on a hot streak over the last three weeks after a subpar start. So let's keep the ball rolling this week. Baltimore Ravens -4.0 vs. Tennessee Titans
Week 6 was probably the most exciting slate of games we've seen this season, both across the country and in the SEC. The SEC's biggest winners were LSU, Alabama, and Georgia, while Kentucky was by far the week's biggest loser. It's possible that the Wildcats just caught the Bulldogs at the wrong time, as this was the type of Georgia team we've been expecting to see all year.
âOnly one unbeaten team remains in the conference after losses from both Kentucky and Missouri, and it feels like we're starting to get a better read on each team as we approach the halfway point of the season. Ryne and I have continued our new trend of ranking each SEC team, which can be viewed below. We've also tracked our week-to-week changes in the right most column. Jacob is only going to provide his rankings every few weeks.
We collapsed down the stretch after a decent start to Week 4 and finished with a casual 4-3 record for the week. Still a winning week, but could have been better. The Lock of the Week suffered its first casualty of the season when Patrick Mahomes decided to slide at the Jets' 1-yard line instead of scoring in the final seconds. It was the right move, but no less infuriating when a play like that costs you a bet. We now sit at 14-11-2 on the season with a 75% hit rate on the Lock of the Week. I have a good feeling that we're going to elevate both figures in Week 5 with the seven picks I'm going to give you right now.
Week 5's biggest winners in the SEC were Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. The Wildcats pummeled Florida for their third straight victory over the Gators. The Rebels got a monster win against LSU in the most exciting SEC game of the season so far. And the Vols got their revenge on the team who knocked them out of CFP contention last season in convincing fashion. Before we get to our picks for Week 6, Jacob, Ryne, and I decided to start ranking the SEC 1 through 14 for how we think each team stacks up against each other. These are based on a combination of win/loss record, head-to-head matchups, strength of schedule, and the eye test up to this point in the season. Our separate rankings are listed below. Let us know in the comments whose rankings you agree with most and what you think we got wrong about your team.
Week 3 was our first big step in the right direction, with a 5-1-1 effort to get us back over .500 with a 10-8-2 record on the season. The only loss was due to the Chiefs nearly reaching the point total by themselves in their 41-10 routing of the Bears. Even more exciting, Seattle handled Carolina to take the Lock of the Week to a perfect 3-0 to start the year. We'll keep the wins going in Week 4 to stretch our profit margin even wider with the seven picks I'm giving you right now. And our weekly Lock will get the Taylor Swift treatment en route to a 4-0 record. Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills Over 54.0 |
