We just can't get an overwhelmingly positive week going this season, as we only escaped with a 4-3 outing in Week 7. The most unfortunate loss was the Over 48.5 not hitting in the Texans/Packers game, as the two teams combined for 40 points in the first 2.5 quarters of action.
A saving grace was that the Lock of the Week was a lock indeed, as we hit the Over 49.0 in the Bucs/Ravens game on Monday night by a whopping 23 points. We're 23-25-1 now on the season, and the Lock of the Week is now 4-6. We're due for a highly successful run any week now, so we might as well do it here in Week 8. Philadelphia Eagles at Cincinnati Bengals Over 47.5
Neither of these defenses has been remarkable so far this season, unless they're going up against weak offenses. And that won't be the case in this matchup. Both offenses are also back to full strength with A.J. Brown back for the Eagles and Tee Higgins back for the Bengals. This should be a fun game that goes back and forth, and I think it's a tossup to try to decide who will win. But a lot of points will be put up on the board by the time the winner is decided.
Detroit Lions -11.5 vs. Tennessee Titans The Titans are almost unimaginably bad. Their only win of the season came against the Tua-less Dolphins, and they haven't even come close in their games against formidable opponents this season. Jared Goff is playing out of his mind right now and the Lions are humming, and they won't even slow down one bit when Tennessee comes to town. This one could get ugly. Miami Dolphins -4.0 vs. Arizona Cardinals Speaking of the Tua-less Dolphins, that era in Miami is over. Tua Tagovailoa has been named the starter for Week 8, and that's going to make a massive difference for this team that had been struggling mightily with the various QBs who have played in his absence. We should now get to see some production from Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, De'Von Achane, and all the other explosive players who were limited by the interim quarterback play. The Cardinals have been struggling offensively, and I think Miami will get a big win in Tua's return game. Buffalo Bills at Seattle Seahawks Over 45.0 Buffalo's offense has been as hot as anyone's this season. But their defense is sometimes susceptible to allowing lots of points as well. This Seahawks offense has been a little inconsistent this year, but they might have gotten things back on the right track last week against Atlanta. Five of Seattle's seven games have gone over the point total so far this year, and I expect this to be the 6th one. Denver Broncos -11.0 vs. Carolina Panthers We saw last week what this Broncos defense can do against a young, inexperienced quarterback, and they're getting another chance to go up against one as Bryce Young will start again for Carolina. Denver's offense has been surprisingly good this year, and even though 11 points feels like a lot here, the Panthers just lost 40-7 to a Commanders team with a backup quarterback. I'm feeling pretty good about this one as a result. Dallas Cowboys +4.5 at San Francisco 49ers There's something that losing 47-9 on your home turf does to a team. And the Cowboys have had two weeks now to marinate on that lousy showing to the Lions before their bye. I think they'll be coming out ready to get that sour taste of crushing defeat out of their mouths. And the 49ers will be without Brandon Aiyuk for sure, as well as potentially Deebo Samuel and/or Jauan Jennings. If both of those guys are indeed out, that would leave Ricky Pearsall as San Francisco's WR1, a guy who got shot just a couple months ago. I don't think the Niners will have the firepower to beat Dallas by any more than a field goal, if that. Pittsburgh Steelers -6.0 vs. New York Giants I was very impressed with this Steelers team in their big win over the Jets last week. And it feels like the Giants are getting worse and worse as the season progresses. It appears that the move from Justin Fields to Russell Wilson was the right one, and that Pittsburgh defense is always dangerous. They'll go up against a team that managed only three points a week ago. I love the Steelers enough here to roll with them as the Lock of the Week.
