NCAAF - SEC Bets - Week 7

Week 6 was absolute chaos, both in the SEC and across the country.  Five of the top 11 teams in the country lost to unranked opponents, and three of those defeated teams came from the SEC.

The most shocking was Vanderbilt's historic win over #1 Alabama in a game that Vandy never trailed.  The Commodores built an early two touchdown lead and then answered every time Bama made a push to steal the game back.  The field goal posts ended up seeing the sights of Downtown Nashville and disrupting bachelorette parties all over the city before being plunged into the Cumberland River as the party raged in Music City.

The second biggest upset of the weekend was delivered by the Arkansas Razorbacks, who stifled #4 Tennessee's high powered offense en route to a 19-14 victory.  Arkansas dominated the line of scrimmage on defense and converted third down after third down on offense in the first half.  But despite limiting the Vols to just 51 yards in the first half, they only managed a 3-0 lead at halftime.  Tennessee quickly put up two touchdowns to open the second half and looked like they were about to roll, but the Razorbacks used some untimely penalties against the Vols to battle back and get the game winning score with backup QB Malachi Singleton after Taylen Green went down early in fourth quarter.

The final big upset was the biggest blowout of the three, as Texas A&M absolutely routed #9 Missouri by a score of 41-10.  Missouri couldn't get anything going all game and were outgained by over 250 total yards.  The Aggies have suddenly played their way squarely into the SEC Championship and CFP mix after most people gave up hope following their Week 1 loss to Notre Dame.

The other three games of the week went about as expected.  Georgia and Ole Miss won comfortably against Auburn and South Carolina, respectively, Florida, despite technically being underdogs at home against UCF, defeated the Knights without much trouble.

Here are our updated BSSR SEC Power Rankings after Week 6:

We have an extraordinarily tight race going right now, as we have Micah in first, and then three others tied just one game behind him.  We'll see who can create separation as we approach the second half of the season.

Here's the Guest Picker Leaderboard:

Las week's guest picker, Kyle, was put in a very tough situation given the amount of upsets across the SEC landscape.  He falls to last place overall so far as a result.  Grok still maintains the lead over the human competition.

This week's guest picker is Dr. Deidre Gilley, Ph.D.  Dr. Gilley played three years of women's collegiate soccer as a goalkeeper and ranks 9th all-time in career saves in Pfeiffer University history.  A scholar as well as an athlete, she owns the record for most credit hours obtained from universities in U.S. history.  She currently works as a Professor in the College of Educational Psychology at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

We enter Week 7 with the SEC race still wide open, as every team but Texas has at least one loss.  There are a ton of juicy in-conference matchups this Saturday.  #1 Texas and #18 Oklahoma face off in the first SEC Red River Rivalry.  #9 Ole Miss travels to #13 LSU for a prime time matchup in Death Valley.  And Tennessee hosts Florida in a rivalry matchup that is always tight regardless of the strength of either team.

Additionally, we'll see how both Alabama and Missouri respond to their bad losses last week as they both enter as 21+ point favorites against South Carolina and UMass, respectively.  And Vanderbilt will look to keep their momentum rolling in Lexington against Kentucky in the last game of the night.

As always, you can tail the following consensus picks and keep rolling that cash over from week to week as you tune in to the BSSR SEC Betting Challenge.
