Week 1 of the college football season was pretty eventful in the SEC. The bulk of teams playing non-Power 4 teams absolutely dominated, while several of the squads facing tougher opponents did not perform well.
Removing South Carolina from the equation, who barely held on to survive against Old Dominion, the other nine SEC teams playing non-Power 4 opponents won by a combined score of 541-13. Pretty impressive even considering the talent mismatches.
On the other hand, Florida, LSU, and Texas A&M all played top 25 teams, and all three were handed a loss. Georgia (unsurprisingly) and Vanderbilt (surprisingly) were the only two SEC teams to secure wins against their Power 4 foes on Saturday.
As a result, one of our experts, Ryne, has composed his first SEC power rankings of the season. He'll update those rankings each week, and they'll be considered the official BSSR SEC Power Rankings as the year progresses. Here are his initial rankings after Week 1:
After one week of action, here's how our BSSR Expert Leaderboard shakes out:
We have a tie for first place overall between Jacob and Ryne, who each hold an outright lead against the spread and on the over/unders, respectively. Jacob is also tied with Alex for the lead on the money line. It's still very early, so a lot can change over the course of the next 13 weeks.
Now for the first Guest Picker Leaderboard:
By default, Stephen begins in the lead across the board. But everyone after him will have the advantage of seeing game results in the weeks leading up to their guest picker weeks. But sitting above .500, we'll see if he can hold his lead after the coming week.
Our Week 2 guest picker is perhaps the most well known of all guest pickers on the docket this season. You might know him from TikTok, where he has over 80,000 followers. Or Spotify, where he has amassed millions of song streams from people all over the world. Or perhaps you've seen his side splitting comedy routines, most notably his spot on impression of former President Donald Trump. Regardless, the multi-talented phenom who will be guest picking for us this week is Tre King. After reading to the end to see all of our picks for the week, be sure to check out his latest album, "abbreviated." for a masterpiece of an emotional roller coaster ride through the unique stages of grief.
