It was a bit of a quiet week in the SEC in Week 9 with several a quarter of the league on byes. But the most notable game was the primetime matchup between LSU and Texas A&M. LSU built a 10-point lead in the first half on the road in College Station before the Aggies inserted their backup quarterback, Marcel Reed. And the Tigers had no answer for him. A&M ended the game on 31-6 run to secure the victory and remain the sole unbeaten SEC team in conference play.
Other notable results from Saturday include Alabama's 34-0 thrashing of Missouri, Vanderbilt's valiant but narrow 3-point loss to Texas, and Auburn's steamrolling of Kentucky in Lexington.
Let's check in on our SEC CFP Tracker that BSSR began running in last week's article.
After last week's games, Vanderbilt has been officially eliminated from the playoff picture. LSU and Missouri also dropped back with the other 2-loss teams, Alabama and Ole Miss, who likely must go perfect from here on out to have a chance to crack the top 12. However, at least one of those teams will be eliminated when LSU and Bama face off next week.
Here's the updated BSSR SEC Power Rankings after Week 9:
Here's the Expert Leaderboard for the BSSR Betting Challenge:
Jacob had a really good week 9 to pull back ahead of Micah, who was previously atop the overall standings. There are still just three games separating the top four experts, so it's still very much anyone's contest this season.
And here's the Guest Picker Leaderboard:
Last week's guest picker, Drew, put together an excellent performance against the spread to take the top spot in that category. But his overall performance was only good for fourth place so far.
This week's guest picker is Alex Patterson. Alex is a decorated swimmer, who won multiple medals for the United States swim teams in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic games. After retiring from the sport, he turned to various men's sporting leagues in the Nashville area where he competes with and against country music's current biggest stars. Alex is also a prominent sports gambler, who DraftKings recognized as the platform's most active bettor in 2023. We have seven games in the SEC this weekend, and to be honest, there's a chance that only a couple of them end up close throughout. The most highly anticipated matchups will be either the ever popular Florida/Georgia game or the primetime contest between Texas A&M and South Carolina. The former could potentially become a blowout, but the latter will likely be a close game that could have severe SEC Championship and playoff implications for A&M. As always, you can roll with our consensus picks below to make the slate of games on Saturday even more enjoyable for you. #19 Ole Miss at Arkansas (MISS -7.0, O/U 53.5)
Vanderbilt at Auburn (AUB -6.5, O/U 48.0)
Maine at Oklahoma (OKLA -34.5, O/U 45.0)
Florida at #2 Georgia (UGA -16.5, O/U 52.0)
